I know what you’re thinking… Data Analytics is for scientists and math nerds. Right? You are very wrong, my dear friend.
Now, I get it. I was never a numbers girl, and when I first saw the term “track your data analytics” I was like 👋🏽 “See ya, I’m out!”
But, then I had a look, because curiosity is the engine of achievement.
I know it looks like a lot of mumbo jumbo at a glance, but believe me when I say that it is really quite simple. LinkedIn has a more comprehensive and detailed analytics as it contains a lot more information, but you don't need to know it all when you're just starting out.
Depending on what your goals for your social media strategy are, some of the key things you will probably want to track are:
Likes + Shares. This determines how well your posts do with your audience.
Audience Growth Rate. A slow build might mean you need to ramp up your posting frequency.
Followers + Following Ratio. If you’ve only got 100 followers, but are following 800, this could put off potential followers.
Active Fans. Not all fans are equal. Some will lurk in the shadows and never comment, like or interact with your page.
Organic vs. Paid Traffic. This one is obvious. Tracking where you’ve converted followers - through your organic posts, or paid ads.
A really useful tool you could invest in is a subscription to an analytics platform where it combines all of your platforms in one so you don’t need to waste time searching on each platform. See my Top 10 sites here.
While tracking your data may seem boring, or overwhelming, it really is the key to success on social media.
